Thursday: Mount of Beatitudes, Tabgha, Jesus Boat, Capernaum, Bethsaida

Another beautiful day in Israel! We visited the Mount of Beatitudes and remembered Jesus’ sermon. We then walked down the hill to Tabgha and the Church of the Primacy of Peter and had the chance to walk on in the Sea of Galilee. From there we visited the Jesus boat museum and got to see some of the Bethsaida excavation artifacts stored there. After a lunch of “St. Peter’s Fish,” we took a boat ride on the Sea, recalling Jesus’ many activities on the water. (And we did indeed dance on the Sea!). Next stop was Capernaum where we saw Peter’s house and the 4th century synagogue built over the foundation of the earlier (1st century CE?) one. As the picture shows, we listened to Mark 1.21-28 recounting Jesus’ teaching and exorcism in the Capernaum synagogue. From there we went on to Bethsaida, home for at least three of Jesus’ disciples.
